NJCAA cancels 2020 spring seasons, winter championships

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) has announced the cancellation of the 2020 spring sports seasons, as well as the cancellation of the remaining winter championships. The announcement comes amid the worldwide COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic.

Many Region IV baseball, softball, and men's tennis teams had already begun their spring seasons. The decision also impacts the outdoor track & field and spring golf seasons and their respective national championships.

The official announcement from the NJCAA also states that no spring student-athlete enrolled at their respective college will be charged a year of participation against their eligibility.

Four basketball teams representing Region IV will miss out on the chance to compete for a national title. Milwaukee Area Technical College was the top seed of the 2020 NJCAA Division II Men's Basketball Championships, with South Suburban College entering as the #6 seed for the event scheduled for March 17-21 in Danville, Illinois. The 2020 NJCAA Division II Women's Basketball Championships in Port Huron, Michigan, during the same week and was to feature Bryant & Stratton College as the #5 seed and Kankakee Community College as the #14 seed.
