DuPage remains atop Region 4 with third straight championship
BYRON, ILL. - The NJCAA Region 4 Division III Men's Golf Tournament is becoming a repetitive exercise with the College of DuPage defeating Madison College in a head-to-head battle. The Chaparrals made it three straight Region 4 championships with a 621 to 648 victory at the two-day, 36-hole event held at PrairieView Golf Club.
The College of DuPage build a ten-stroke lead after the first day with a 309 team total. The Chaps were led by Damian Guerrero and Sam Faulhaber, who were tied with the WolfPack's Jake Rebholz for the tournament lead at two-over-par 74. Madison College's Matt Paulson was two shots back, and COD's Jake Dianovsky carded a 78 to round out the opening day sub-80 rounds.
The second day saw the College of DuPage separate with a 312 score that was 17 shots better than the WolfPack, thanks again to three more scores in the 70s. Guerrero, a sophomore from Lisle, Illinois, took Region 4 Golfer of the Year honors with a plus-six 150 (74-76). Faulhaber was the runner-up at 152 (74-78), while Paulson was the top finisher for Madison College at ten-over-par 154 (76-78).
Jason Hyatt was awarded the Region 4 Coach of the Year after leading the Chaps to their 21st Region 4 crown.
The title automatically qualifies the College of DuPage for the 2022 NJCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships at Chautauqua Golf Course in Chautauqua, New York, from June 7-10.
