McHenry's Cimaroli, Joliet's Rodriguez receive NJCAA Player of the Week honors

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) has named McHenry County College's Alex Cimaroli and Joilet Junior College's Andrew Rodriguez as the Division II and Division III Players of the Week, respectively, for March 26-April 1 (Week 10). The national honors are the first of the season for both players, as well as for both programs.

Cimaroli, a sophomore shortstop, batted .520 over seven games as he went 13 for 25 with seven doubles and two home runs. He also drove in a 12 runs and scored a dozen more. Highlights of the week included a 4 for 5 effort with three doubles, three RBI, and two runs scored in a 9-0 victory over the College of Lake County, as well as a 4 for 7 game with a home run, five runs driven in, and three scored as part of a 24-10 rout of Prairie State College. The Scots went 6-1 during the week to improve their overall record to 18-5 and are currently receiving votes in the latest NJCAA DII Poll.

Rodriguez, a sophomore first baseman, hit .636 with seven hits in 11 at-bats over a three game stretch that produced 11 RBI and four runs scored. In a 13-2 defeat of Morton College, he went 2 for 3 with a triple and a home run, and drove in five runs. Rodriguez topped that output one game later with a perfect 4 for 4 day that included a double and a home run, and resulted in six RBI and two runs scored in a 12-7 win at Carl Sandburg College. The Wolves are 10-13 through Week 10.
