Milwaukee's Javier picks up 2019 NJCAA DIII Baseball ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Award®

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) has named Milwaukee Area Technical College's Bryan Javier as the top fielding shortstop in the nation by selecting him as the 2019 NJCAA DIII Baseball ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Award® winner for his position. He is the only North Central Community College Conference player to receive the honor in 2019.

Region IV to name yearly awards after legendary coaches Don Klaas, Wayne L. King, Jr.

The NJCAA Region IV is proud to announce the renaming of two annual coaching awards in honor of two legendary coaches. From this point forward, the Region IV Men's Basketball Coach of the Year will be named after former College of DuPage coach Don Klaas, while the Region IV Baseball Coach of the Year will be named for former Joliet Junior College coach Wayne L. King, Jr.

The National Junior College Athletic Association released its list of All-Americans for the 2019 spring sports season and an impressive 46 student-athletes from Region IV were recognized. The group includes nine in baseball, five in softball, two in men's golf, eight in women's track & field, and 22 from men's track & field. Triton College and Harper College combined for 30 All-Americans in track & field, while Madison College boasts four honorees, and Rock Valley College touts three recipients

Madison, Oakton fall short of national title aspirations

Entering their respective NJCAA World Series, both the Madison College and Oakton Community College baseball teams had aspirations of claiming a national championship, however, both teams fell shy of their goals last week. The defending national champion Owls were eliminated after three games, while the WolfPack bowed out in a decisive second semifinal game, one win shy of reaching the championship game.

Triton College sophomore Troy Jones topped a list that included plenty of his Trojans teammates as he was named the Player of the Year on the 2019 Region IV Division I All-Region Team. Jones, an infielder, is also one of five Triton College players to receive the region's All-American nominations, along with pitcher Alonzo White, catcher, Bobby Grimes, outfielder Luke Seidel, and designated hitter Bryant Diel. Triton College boasts five all-region honorees, while South Suburban College was second with three recipients.

Madison College sophomore Nick Gile was named the Player of the Year as the top vote-getter on the 2019 Region IV Division II All-Region Team. Gile, a second baseman, also leads the list of the region's All-American nominations that includes pitcher Patrick Foldy of Madison College, catcher Ryan Parquette of McHenry County College, outfielder Nathan Aide from Madison College, and designated hitter Carlos Del Valle of Morton College. The WolfPack led all teams with six all-region honorees, including five first team selections, while McHenry County College, Carl Sandburg College, and Kankakee Community College each had four.

Rock Valley College pitcher Zac Cummins was tabbed the Player of the Year and sits atop the 2019 Region IV Division III All-Region Teams following an impressive freshman season. As the top vote-getter, Cummins is one of five players from the region to receive All-American nominations, with the others being catcher Hogan McIntosh of Waubonsee Community College, infielder Garrett Goetz of Waubonsee Community College, outfielder Andrew Rouse of Oakton Community College, and designated hitter Zack Lauras of Joliet Junior College. The Owls and Chiefs tied for the highest number of all-region players with five each, while the Golden Eagles were next with four.

One is hoping to defend a national title, the other is hoping to reclaim a spot atop the mountain. Madison College and Oakton Community College will each continue their pursuit of a national title when play begins this weekend at the 2019 NJCAA Division II World Series and the NJCAA Division III World Series, respectively.

Madison repeats as Region IV champions

MADISON, WISC. - The three other remaining teams in the Region IV Division II Baseball Tournament each had their crack at the defending champions, and in the end, top-seeded Madison College survived the test and continued their reign atop the region. The WolfPack shutout third-seeded Black Hawk College 9-0 to claim their second straight title and their eighth in ten years since joining the region. As a result, Madison College will make its 14th appearance in a NJCAA baseball national tournament and their ninth trip to the NJCAA Division II World Series.

Venditti becomes third Waubonsee player selected for NJCAA weekly award

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) has named Waubonsee Community College's Tyler Venditti as the Division III Pitcher of the Week for May 6-12 (Week 16). The honor is the first of its kind for Venditti, and the third this season for the Chiefs, who also saw Jordan Ishman win pitcher of the week in Week 13 and Gavin Lovesky take home player of the week accolades in Week 8.

Triton nabs fourth consecutive Region IV title win defeat of South Suburban

RIVER GROVE, ILL. - The path through the Region IV Division I Baseball Tournament is growing quite familiar for Triton College, which defeated South Suburban College 4-1 in the second championship game to win the title on Sunday. The Trojans have owned the championship crown for four straight years, and have now stacked up 24 region titles overall.

Oakton finishes off successful defense of Region IV title

ROCKFORD, ILL. - A tournament that saw its top two seeds eliminated early ended with a repeat champion taking its first step towards trying to defend an even bigger crown. Oakton Community College earned its second consecutive championship at the Region IV Division III Baseball Tournament on Sunday, using a 10-7 win in the second of two championship games against Waubonsee Community College. The top-seeded Owls, who used their first-ever region crown in 2018 to spring-board themselves all the way to the NJCAA Division III National Championship, won five games over four days to complete the repeat.

Isham becomes second Waubonsee player to earn NJCAA weekly honor

The National Junior College Athletic Associations (NJCAA) has named Waubonsee Community College's Jordan Isham as the Division III Baseball Pitcher of the Week for April 15-21 (Week 13). The award is the first such honor for Isham, and the second this season for the Chiefs after Gavin Lovesky was named player of the week for Week 8.

Madison's Scheelk, Rock Valley's Burton named NJCAA Players of the Week

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) has named Madison College's Jarrett Scheelk and Rock Valley College's Bryce Burton as the NJCAA Baseball Division II and Division III Players of the Week, respectively, for April 8-14 (Week 12). The awards are the first for Scheelk and Burton, as well as the first this season for the WolfPack and Golden Eagles.

Home runs send Sandburg's Blackford to NJCAA Player of the Week award
