Home runs send Sandburg's Blackford to NJCAA Player of the Week award

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) has selected Carl Sandburg College's Braedon Blackford as the Division II Player of the Week for April 1-7 (Week 11). The award is the first for Blackford, and the first this season for the Chargers.

Blackford, a sophomore middle infielder from Peoria, Illinois, showed some pop during a seven game stretch that witnessed him hitting five home runs and driving in 18 runs as part of a .600 batting week. Blackford finished the week 12 for 20 at the plate with six extra base hits, six walks, and 11 runs scored. The impressive run helped him extend his hitting streak to ten straight games. In a 10-3 win at Sauk Valley Community College, Blackford was 2 for 3 with two home runs, one walk, drove in four runs, and scored three times.

Blackford and the Chargers are 13-8-1 on the season.
