Madison's Scheelk, Rock Valley's Burton named NJCAA Players of the Week

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) has named Madison College's Jarrett Scheelk and Rock Valley College's Bryce Burton as the NJCAA Baseball Division II and Division III Players of the Week, respectively, for April 8-14 (Week 12). The awards are the first for Scheelk and Burton, as well as the first this season for the WolfPack and Golden Eagles.

Scheelk, a second year first baseman, batted .470 with 14 runs batted in and six runs scored as the 'Pack went 5-0 during the week. The Green Bay, Wisconsin, native registered eight hits and one walk in 17 at-bats. Five of those hits went for extra bases, including three home runs. The first long ball came in the form of a grand slam as part of an 8-1 win at Milwaukee Area Technical College, while the other two occurred in the same game as Madison College topped Kankakee Community College 7-1 behind four RBI from Scheelk.

On the season, Scheelk is batting .319 and leads the team with six home runs and 27 runs batted in. He and the WolfPack, who are currently receiving votes in the latest NJCAA Division II Poll, are 22-7 on the season and riding an 11-game win streak.

Burton, a freshman outfielder, posted a .706 average with 12 runs driven to push the Golden Eagles to a 5-1 mark during the week. The Sugar Grove, Illinois, native amassed 12 hits in 17 at-bats, including five doubles, and scored ten runs. Burton went 3 for 4 with three RBI and four runs scored in a 15-7 win over Bryant & Stratton College (WI), and followed it up with a 4 for 4 effort that produced six runs batted in and two more scored to help defeat Olive-Harvey College 21-1.

For the year, Burton is batting .361 with 30 hits, 21 runs scored, and 19 RBI. Rock Valley College is currently ranked #5 in the NJCAA Division III Poll with a 33-9 mark overall after winning 15 of their last 17.
