Triton nabs fourth consecutive Region IV title win defeat of South Suburban

RIVER GROVE, ILL. - The path through the Region IV Division I Baseball Tournament is growing quite familiar for Triton College, which defeated South Suburban College 4-1 in the second championship game to win the title on Sunday. The Trojans have owned the championship crown for four straight years, and have now stacked up 24 region titles overall.

The top-seeded Trojans went through the exact same sequence of games as a year ago. They opened with a resounding 18-3 win over Kishwaukee College (5-33-1) in five innings before play the second-seeded Bulldogs in three straight games. Following a 2-1 in the semifinals, South Suburban College (29-25) gave Triton College its first postseason loss with a 6-4 decision in the first championship game. In the decisive game two, trailed 1-0 for six innings before the Trojans were able to plate a run in the seventh tie the game. They added three more in the eighth to get the win.

Freshman outfielder Jack Ferraro was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player after coming through with several clutch hits. Harry Torgerson was named Region IV Coach of the Year.

Triton College (30-17) advances to the NJCAA North District Tournament on May 17-19, which will be hosted by Wabash Valley Community College in Mt. Carmel, Illinois. Wabash Valley College (52-2) is currently the top-ranked team in the NJCAA Division I Poll. The Trojans will open against #9-ranked Iowa Western Community College (45-8) at noon on Friday, while WVC takes on Rend Lake (26-23). The district tournament champion will qualify for the 2019 NJCAA JUCO World Series in Grand Junction, Colorado, from May 25-June 1.
