Madison, Oakton ready to make big statements at NJCAA World Series

One is hoping to defend a national title, the other is hoping to reclaim a spot atop the mountain. Madison College and Oakton Community College will each continue their pursuit of a national title when play begins this weekend at the 2019 NJCAA Division II World Series and the NJCAA Division III World Series, respectively.

Oakton Community College enjoyed a magical run through their first national tournament appearance in 2018, winning the programs only national title. The Owls are back in Greeneville, Tennessee, after defeating Delta Colleg (MI) two-games-to-one to win the NJCAA District B Championship best-of-three series. The defending national champs are 36-20 on the season and were awarded the tournament's #5 seed, setting up an opening round matchup with #4-seeded Herkimer Community College (NY) on Saturday, May 25 at 3:00 p.m. at Pioneer Park. The Generals, ranked #2 in the last NJCAA Division III Poll, are 35-4-2 and making their seventh national tournament appearance since 2005. The winner advances to play a quarterfinal game on Sunday at 7:00 p.m., while the loser plays an elimination game at 1:00 p.m. that same day.

Madison College won the Region IV title for the eighth time in ten years and are looking to build off their fifth place finish at the 2018 World Series. With a 40-9 record, the WolfPack earned the tournament's #2 seed and a first round bye. They will await the winner of Saturday's matchup between #7-seeded Northeast Community College (NE) and #10-seeded Monroe Community College (NY). The Hawks are 34-18 and are making their national tournament debut as 2019 marks the program's second year of existence, while the Tribunes own a 29-19 mark and are back for a second straight year and sixth time overall. Sunday's game at David Allen Memorial Ballpark in Enid, Oklahoma, is slated for a 7:15pm start. The winner advances to play Monday at 4:00 p.m. Madison College, ranked #14 in the last NJCAA Division II Poll, is seeking its fourth national championship after winning three consecutive in Division III from 1995-1997.
