Triton's Jones claims Player of the Year, Trojans sweep top awards
Triton College sophomore Troy Jones topped a list that included plenty of his Trojans teammates as he was named the Player of the Year on the 2019 Region IV Division I All-Region Team. Jones, an infielder, is also one of five Triton College players to receive the region's All-American nominations, along with pitcher Alonzo White, catcher, Bobby Grimes, outfielder Luke Seidel, and designated hitter Bryant Diel. Triton College boasts five all-region honorees, while South Suburban College was second with three recipients.
Jones, a native of Orland Park, Illinois, was second in Region IV with a .459 batting average after posting 51 hits, including 16 for extra bases. He drove in 37 runs, scored 35 times, and stole a dozen bases. In the field, Jones registered a .934 fielding percentage and committed just five errors. Jones also helped out on the mound in 2019, posting a 2.00 earned run average and ten strikeouts in his nine innings pitched.
