Rock Valley's Cummins gets nod as DIII Player of the Year
Rock Valley College pitcher Zac Cummins was tabbed the Player of the Year and sits atop the 2019 Region IV Division III All-Region Teams following an impressive freshman season. As the top vote-getter, Cummins is one of five players from the region to receive All-American nominations, with the others being catcher Hogan McIntosh of Waubonsee Community College, infielder Dan Sullivan of Oakton Community College, outfielder Andrew Rouse of Oakton Community College, and designated hitter Zack Lauras of Joliet Junior College. The Owls and Chiefs tied for the highest number of all-region players with five each, while the Golden Eagles were next with four.
Cummins, a native of Freeport, Illinois, boasted a Region IV-best 1.97 earned run average over 64 innings pitched, which included six complete games. The righthander was tied for third in the region with a 9-1 record and tied for sixth with 70 strikeouts. Cummins also earned two saves and two shutouts in his 13 appearances, while walking just nine batters all season. He held opposing hitters to a .219 batting average.
