The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) has named South Suburban College's Jordan Matthews as the men's basketball Division II Player of the Week for December 19-January 7 (Week 8). The honor is the first such award for Matthews, and the first of the season for the Bulldogs.

Matthews, a 5'11" guard, averaged 26.3 points per game as SSC posted a 3-1 record during that timespan. The sophomore from Kokomo, Indiana, also shot an impressive 88.9% from the free throw line, converting 16 of 18. Matthews opened the week with a 29-point outing in a 94-69 win over Carl Sandburg College. At the John Wood Community College New Year's Eve Classic in Quincy, Illinois, he scored 23 points in a 66-52 defeat of John Wood CC, and followed it up with a 33-point game as the Bulldogs lost 82-78 to Moberly Area Community College. He concluded the run by dropping in 20 points against Bryant & Stratton College during a 76-66 victory. Over the four games, he also averaged 4.0 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.8 steals.

Matthews and the Bulldogs are 16-3 on the season and ranked #8 in the latest NJCAA Division II Poll. They host Illinois Valley Community College on Saturday, January 13.
