Highland one-and-done at The Tournament, fall to eventual national champ

For the second year in a row, the Highland Community College men's basketball team was one-and-done at the NJCAA Division I National Championships, also known as The Tournament, in Hutchinson, Kansas. One major difference in 2018, however, is that the #20 Cougars lost to eventual national champion #13 South Plains (TX) College, doing so by a 91-71 final in the first round.

Highland was led by Jay'Quan McCloud and Rod Johnson, Jr. with 16 points each, while Luka Barisic added a dozen points. The Cougars finished the year with a 26-7 overall record.

The South Plains Texans won five consecutive games in The Tournament to secure their third national championship in the last ten years. They tied the record for the lowest seed to win the national title.
