Colorado Springs, CO – After guiding Triton College (IL) to its first-ever national championship, head coach Steve Christiansen has been named 2017-18 Spalding® NJCAA DII Men's Basketball Coach of the Year.

In his 14th season at the helm of the Trojans, Christiansen guided his program to an impressive 33-4 record in 2017-18. Triton won its final nine games, including four at the national tournament to capture the title.

A staple in River Grove, IL, Christiansen became the program's all-time winningest coach in 2017. During his tenure, Christiansen has also been named the District 3 Coach of the Year and Region IV Coach of the Year along with the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Junior College DII Coach of the Year.

The Trojans were consistently ranked inside the top five in the NJCAA DII rankings. Triton outscored its opponents by over 20 points per game throughout the year, including a margin of 21.5 in the national tournament.

Sophomore Deonta Terrell was named to the 2017-18 NJCAA DII Men's Basketball All-America First Team under Christiansen's tutelage.

Along with his coaching duties, Christiansen serves as the Athletic Academic Coordinator at Triton.
