2018-19 NJCAA Region IV Men's Basketball Players of the Week

The following is the on-going list of 2018-19 men's basketball student-athletes named NJCAA Region IV Player of the Week for their respective divisions.

 

February 18, 2019

Division II - District 3: Joe Duty, Bryant & Stratton College
Duty, a sophomore guard, scored 23 points and hit five 3-pointers against Illinois Valley Community College. He finished 8 for 11 overall with six rebounds and four assists.

Division II - District 4: Jordan Irving, Oakton Community College
Irving, a sophomore guard, averaged 30.7 points, 5.7 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 2.3 steals in three wins for the Owls. He shot 59% from the field and 65% from beyond the arc.

Division III: David Spell, College of DuPage
Spell, a sophomore forward, racked up averages of 21.5 points and 9.5 rebounds as the Chaparrals split a pair of games.

 

February 11, 2019

Division II - District 3: Justin Brookens, Bryant & Stratton College
Brookens, a freshman guard, averaged 24.0 points, 2.6 steals, and 2.3 assists per game, while shooting 67% from the field in a trio of wins for the Bobcats.

Division II - District 4: Darius Jones, Oakton Community College
Jones, a sophomore forward, shot 54% en route to a 19.0 points per game average over two outings. He also averaged 10.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 3.5 blocks.

Division III: Adam Anhold, Madison College
Anhold, a freshman forward, keyed three victory WolfPack victories with 20.6 points, 11.6 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks a contest. He also posted shooting percentages of 57% overall and 33% from beyond the arc.

 

February 4, 2019

Division II - District 3: Justin Brookens, Bryant & Stratton College, and Rhyss Lewis, South Suburban College
Brookens, a freshman guard, tallied 29 points on 9 of 17 shooting with three 3-pointers, as well as three rebounds and three assists against Dakota County Technical College (MN). Lewis, a sophomore guard, poured in 35 points after converting 6 of 12 field goal attempts and knocking down six shots beyond the arc. He also amassed seven rebounds, five assists, three blocks, and two steals.

 

January 29, 2019

Division III: Nana Kodom-Ayensu, Rock Valley College
Kodom-Ayensu, a sophomore center, averaged 21.0 points and 9.5 rebounds, while shooting 63% from the field, in wins over the College of DuPage and Wilbur Wright College.

 

January 22, 2019

Division II - District 3: Justin Brookens, Bryant & Stratton College
Brookens, a freshman guard, scored 29 points with seven 3's and added five assists and one steal against Kirkwood Community College (IA). Against Moriane Valley Community College, he again drained seven 3-pointers en route to 36 points, five rebounds, and five assists.

Division II - District 4: Tyrone Rhivers, Morton College
Rhivers registered 34 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and three steals against Waubonsee Community College. Prior to that, he played limited minutes against the College of Lake County and finished with nine points, four assists, three rebounds, and three steals.

Division III: Jason Peace, College of DuPage
Peace averaged 18.0 points on 68% shooting and 8.0 rebounds during the week.

 

January 14, 2019

Division II - District 3: Rhyss Lewis, South Suburban College
Lewis, a 6'2" sophomore guard, scored 37 points on 11 of 20 shooting with seven 3-pointers and an 8 for 9 effort at the free throw line. He also tallied three assists, two rebounds, two steals, and a block.

 

December 17, 2018

Division I: Deang Deang, Highland Community College
Deang, a 6''4" sophomore guard, lead the Cougars to a second place finish and was an All-Tournament Team selection at the eight-team William R. Bear Tournament. Over three games, he averged 20.7 points, 10.0 rebounds, and six assists, while shooting 50% from the field and 78% at the free throw line.

Division II - District 3: Rhyss Lewis, South Suburban College
In two games, Lewis averaged 36.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 3.0 assists. The 6'2" sophomore guard also had six steals and a pair of blocks.

Division III: Tyree Spencer, College of DuPage
Spencer hit a game-winning three-pointer with 15 seconds remaining to help the Chaparrals defeat the College of Lake County 70-69, snapping a season-opening nine-game losing streak. The 5'11" sophomore guard, scored 16 points in the winning effort.

 

December 10, 2018

Division II - District 3: Shannon Sanford, Milwaukee Area Technical College
Sanford, a sophomore, averaged 23.6 points and 4.6 rebounds per game in three Stormers victories. He shot 50.9% overall and 35% from three-point range.

Division III: Kelvin Cortez-Harvey, Elgin Community College
Cortez-Harvey, a sophomore, posted averages of 21.3 points, 4.3 assists, 2.6 rebounds, and 2.0 steals over three wins by the Spartans.
