Rock Valley's Burnell shoot his way to NJCAA Player of the Week honors

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) has named Rock Valley College's Charles Burnell the Men's Basketball Division III Player of the Week for November 11-17 (Week 2). The award is the first such honor for Burnell, and the first this season for the Golden Eagles.

Burnell, a 5'10" guard from Rockford, Illinois, averaged 28.5 points and 2.5 rebounds, while shooting an impressive 71.4% from beyond the three-point arc as the Golden Eagles went 1-1 during the week. In a narrow 90-88 loss at McHenry County College, Burnell scored a career-high 42 points on 14 of 21 shooting that included a 2 for 2 effort from long range. He also added a 12 for 17 tally at the free throw line, while securing four rebounds, one steal, and one block. Burnell followed that up with a 15-point performance in an 88-77 home win over Lorain County Community College (OH) that featured a 3 for 5 showing outside the arc.

For the season, Burnell is averaging 21.4 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and shooting 55.2% from distance. He and the Golden Eagles are 3-4 to start the season.
