2019-20 NJCAA Region IV Men's Basketball Players of the Week

The following is the on-going list of 2019-20 men's basketball student-athletes named NJCAA Region IV Player of the Week for their respective divisions.

 

February 17, 2020

Division II - District 3: Courtney Carter, South Suburban College
Carter, a sophomore guard, helped the Bulldogs pick up two road victories by contributing 17.0 points, 9.0 assists, 8.0 rebounds, 6.0 steals, and 2.0 blocks per game.

Division II - District 4: D.J. Ellis, Waubonsee Community College
Ellis, a freshman guard, averaged 27.5 points, 9.5 assists, and 8.5 rebounds in a 2-0 week for the Chiefs.

Division III: Ja'Quan Chestnut, Rock Valley College
Chestnut, a sophomore guard/forward, guided the Golden Eagles in two wins by racking up 20.0 points and 9.0 rebounds a game.

 

February 10, 2020

Division II - District 3: Artemis Anderson, Wilbur Wright College
Anderson, a freshman guard, averaged 20.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 2.5 assists over two wins for the Rams.

Division II - District 4: Dontia Jonson, Moraine Valley Community College
Jonson, a sophomore forward, posted 22.6 points and 6.7 rebounds as the Cyclones picked up three wins.

Division III: Abram Ross, College of DuPage
Ross hit the game-winner in the closing seconds against Madison College to help the Chaparrals to a 2-0 week, while also averaging a double-double of 13.5 points, 11.5 rebounds, 2.0 steals, and 1.0 block.

 

February 3, 2020

Division II - District 3: LaValle Nelson, Wilbur Wright College
Nelson, a freshman guard, averaged 26.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 3.0 assists over two games.

Division II - District 4: Chima Nwosu, Oakton Community College
Nwosa, a freshman forward, posted averages of 24.0 points, 10.0 rebounds, 4.5 blocks, 2.0 assists, and 2.0 steals over a pair of games in which he shot 73% from the field.

Division III: Davion Washington, Madison College
Washington, a sophomore guard, helped the WolfPack to two wins by averaging 14.5 points, 4.5 assists, 4.0 rebounds, and 3.0 steals per game.

 

January 28, 2020

Division II - District 3: Courtney Carter, South Suburban College
Carter, a sophomore guard, averaged 20.0 points, 6.3 rebounds, 9.0 assists, and 6.0 steals over three victories for the Bulldogs. He shot 62% from the field and 53.8% on three-point attempts.

Division II - District 4: Jalen Hughes, Moraine Valley Community College
Hughes, a sophmore guard, registered 18.5 points and 4.5 assists while shooting 54% from long range helping the Cyclones pick up a pair of wins to extend their current win streak.

Division III: Nick Pierson, Rock Valley College 
Pierson, a freshman forward, shot 56% overall over a pair of Golden Eagles wins en route to averages of 18.0 points and 8.5 rebounds per game.

 

January 21, 2020

Division I: Amiri Young, Richard J. Daley College
Young, a freshman guard, scored 25 points, to go along with four assists, two rebounds, and one steal, in a win one-point win over Malcolm X College.

Division II - District 3: Devonte Logan, Wilbur Wright College
Logan, a sophomore guard, posted consecutive double-doubles in a 1-1 week for the Rams. He averaged 20.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 7.5 assists.

Division II - District 4: Mikell Cooper, McHenry County College
Cooper, a sophomore guard, helped the Scots to a pair of wins with 28.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 6.5 assists, and 3.0 steals per game.

Division III: Khyre Hines, College of DuPage
Hines, sophomore guard, hit a game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer to defeat Joliet Junior College and cap a 2-0 week for the Chaparrals. He averaged 13.5 points and 3.5 assists, while shooting 52% for the week.

 

January 13, 2020

Division I: Christian Magruder, Richard J. Daley College
Magruder, a 6'2" freshman, averaged 26.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.0 steals, and 1.5 blocks per game during a 1-1 week for the Bulldogs. He also shot 57.6% overall and 57.1% from three-point range.

Division II - District 3: Delaney Little, Black Hawk College
Little, a freshman guard, posted 31.0 points per game and shot 58.9% overall, 55% from beyond the arc, and 85% at the free throw line. He drained a game-winning buzzer-beater during a 1-1 week for the Braves.

Division II - District 4: Jarod Stonis, College of Lake County
Stonis, a 6'4" sophomore guard/forward, led the Lancers to three wins by averaging 23.7 points, 13.0 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 2.0 blocked shots. For the week he shot 52% from the field, 31% from long range, and 84% at the charity stripe.

Division III: Ja'Quan Chestnut, Rock Valley College
Chestnut, a 6'5" sophomore guard/forward, scored 18 points on 70% shooting, and grabbed five rebounds and two steals in a loss to Triton College.

 

January 6, 2020

Division II - District 3: Malcolm Bell, South Suburban College
Bell, a 6'5" sophomore, scored 24 points with four 3-pointers, to go along with seven rebounds, two assists, two steals, and two blocks, in win over Carl Sandburg College.

Division III: Adam Taylor, Joliet Junior College
Taylor, a 6'4" freshman, led the Wolves to back-to-back conference wins, averaging 26.0 points and 12.5 rebounds. He shot 55% overall with ten 3-pointers and was 11 of 12 at the free throw line.

 

December 16, 2019

Division I: Dannie Smith, Triton College
Smith averaged 19.7 points and 5.3 assists en route to all-tournament honors as the Trojans went 2-1 to finish second at the William R. Bear Tournament.

Division II - District 3: Ja'Dyn Brown, Wilbur Wright College
Brown tallied 28.7 points, 8.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.3 blocks over three games for the Rams.

Division II - District 4: Cawone Hester, Morton College
Hester registered 19 points, eight assists, and seven rebounds to help the Panthers defeat Olive-Harvey College.

Division III: Brayden Hennis, Rock Valley College
Hennis earned all-tournament accolades after guiding the Golden Eagles to the consolation championship and a 2-1 record at the William R. Bear Tournament with averages of 21.3 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 5.0 assists.

 

Deceember 9, 2019

Division II - District 4: Anthony Thompson, College of Lake County
Thompson, a freshman guard, averaged 21.6 points, 6.3 assists, and 3.3 steals during the week. He also shot 57.8% from the floor and was good on 89.5% of his free throw attempts.

Division III: Kelvin Cortez-Harvey, Elgin Community College
Cortez-Harvey, a sophomore guard, posted averages of 28.6 points, 5.7 assists, 4.3 rebounds, and 4.3 steals in three Spartans victories.
