Stonis of Lake County uses double-doubles to earn NJCAA Player of the Week

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) has selected the College of Lake County's Jarod Stonis as the Division II Men's Basketball Player of the Week for January 6-12 (Week 8). The honor is the first national honor for Stonis, and the first such honor this season for the Lancers.

Stonis, a 6'4" sophomore guard/forward, led the Lancers to three wins by averaging 23.7 points, 13.0 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 2.0 blocked shots. For the week he shot 52% from the field, 31% from long range, and 84% at the charity stripe. The Wauconda, Illinois, native posted double-doubles in all three wins, starting with a career-high 30 and 15 rebounds against #8-ranked Elgin Community College. He went for 16 points and 11 rebounds against Oakton Community College, and then capped the week at Gogebic Community College (MI) by registering 25 points and 13 boards. 

Stonis, who was also named the Region IV Division II District 4 Player of the Week, is averaging 16.8 points and 9.8 rebounds per game this season for the 14-4 Lancers, who are receiving votes in the latest NJCAA Division II Poll.
