Lake County claims Region IV DI title, Prairie State's Diaz earns MVP

PALOS HILLS, ILL. - By the slimmest of margins, the College of Lake County claimed the 2017 Region IV Division I Men's Tennis Championship, surpassing the College of DuPage by a single point. The Lancers tallied 12 points and the Chaparrals came in with 11, while Oakton Community College finished third at 9.5 points.

Daniel Diaz of Prairie State College won the No. 1 singles title over Robert Lazar of Oakton (6-3, 6-0) and was named Most Valuable Player. Diaz was also a member of the championship doubles flight, partnering with Ian Millan to defeat the top team of Demoll and Mackh of DuPage in straight sets.

Jim Love of Lake County was recognized as Coach of the Year.

The top three teams, as well as the top singles and doubles players will compete at the 2017 NJCAA Division I Men's Tennis National Championships in Plano, Texas, from May 15-19.
