DuPage upends IVCC for Region 4 title, places fourth at NJCAA championships

ELMHURST, ILL. - The College of DuPage dominated the 2022 NJCAA Region 4 Division III Men's Tennis Championships, winning all nine matches in a head-to-head showdown with Illinois Valley Community College on April 29. The 9-0 win marks the first Region 4 crown for the Chaparrals since 2011. Freshman Jake Anderson was named Region 4 Tournament Most Valuable Player, while coach Jim Bowers received the Region 4 Coach of the Year award.

Anderson opened the impressive showing by the College of DuPage with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Aaron Brandner in the top singles flight. Mark Lobdell then needed a 7-6 decision in the second set against Alex Newman to make it two in a row. The remaining four singles matches were fairly one-sided with wins by DuPage's Mitch Ludewig, Clayton Barma, Anthony Kaminski, and Daniel Anderson.

The top doubles flight saw Anderson team up with Lobdell and defeat the tandem of Brandner and Newman in a 6-4, 6-1 match. Ludewig and Barma downed Ben Morrow and Andres Mendes by a 6-2, 6-1 decision.

2022 Region 4 Division III Men's Tennis Final Results


At the 2022 NJCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championships in Oxford, Georgia, from May 13-15, the College of DuPage earned its first top-five team finish since 2008. The Chaparrals amassed 13 points to finish fourth overall, 20 points back of host Oxford College at Emory University, which claimed its sixth consecutive national championship. 

Freshman Mitch Ludewig was the only DuPage player to reach the final of his flight, falling 6-0, 6-0 to Frank Lu of Oxford Emory in the Flight #3 Championship. He earned NJCAA Second Team Singles All-American honors as a result.
