RVC sweeps NJCAA weekly awards for second time as Crown, Alexander earn honors
For the second time in three weeks, the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) named a Rock Valley College tandem as the Division III Player and Pitcher of the Week for March 11-17 (Week 8). Breanna Crown earned the top pitcher honor for the second time this season, while Cara Alexander took home her first career award as the top position player. The top-ranked and five-time defending national champion Golden Eagles now boast four weekly honors this season.
Crown, who won the same award for February 25-March 3, posted 22 strikeouts over 16 innings pitched to earn three wins for RVC. In wins over Mott Community College (MI), Iowa Lakes Community College, and Onondaga Community College (NY), Crown allowed three earned runs and five hits. The Davis Junction, Illinois, native now boast five career national pitcher of the week awards.
Alexander, a freshman catcher/utility player from Sterling, Illinois, batted .478 with 15 runs scored and five batted in. She went 11 for 23 at the plate and stole five bases as the Golden Eagles posted eight straight wins. Alexander twice registered three this, while also scoring three runs on two separate occassions.
