Gill of Prairie State nabs NJCAA Player of the Week honor

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) has named Prairie State College's Alyssa Gill as the NJCAA Division II Softball Player of the Week for April 8-14 (Week 12). The honor is the first such award for Gill, and the first this season for the Pioneers.

Gill, a sophomore utility player, registered a 1.655 slugging percentage with 20 runs batted in and seven home runs over eight games that saw Prairie State College post a 7-1 record. The St. John, Indiana, native batted .655 with 19 hits in 29 at-bats, including four doubles and two triples as part of 13 extra base hits. Gill went 4 for 5 with two home runs and a triple that helped her produce seven RBI and three runs scored in a 13-7 decision over Waubonsee Community College. She then started a stretch of four straight games with a home run by hitting two more in an 8-7 setback at Triton College.

Gill is batting .468 on the year with a dozen home runs, 37 runs batted in, and 37 runs scored. She and the Pioneers currently 18-13 on the season.
