2018-19 NJCAA Region IV Women's Basketball Players of the Week

The following is the on-going list of 2018-19 women's basketball student-athletes named NJCAA Region IV Player of the Week for their respective divisions.

 

February 18, 2019

Division II - District D: Sierra Sanders, Wilbur Wright College
Against Joliet Junior College, Sanders scored 29 points, had 20 rebounds, five steals, and one block. Sierra scored 29 points against opposite Milwaukee Area Technical College, to go with 24 rebounds, five steals, three assists, and four blocks. Against Triton College, she tallied 25 points, with 26 rebounds, two steals, six assists, and four blocks. Sanders' totals for the week were: 83 points (31/74 FG, 21/36 FT), 70 rebounds, 12 steals, nine assists, and nine blocks.

Division II - District L: Ashley Kerns, Kishwaukee College
Against Highland Community College, Kerns scored 11 points, grabbed 13 rebounds, dished out 4 assists, and collected 2 steals. Against Carl Sandburg College, she posted seven points and 4 rebounds. Kerns' totals for the week were: 18 points (5/8 FG, 8/11 FT), 17 rebounds, four assists, and two steals.

Division III: Shaquita Lee, Madison College, and Rachel Dumoulin, Elgin Community College
Against Rock Valley College, Lee scored 26 points, and had nine rebounds, nine steals, five assists, and one block. Against Triton College, she registered a double-double of 36 points and 11 rebounds, while also picking up four steals, eight assists, and one block. Then against Milwaukee Area Technical College, Lee finished with 22 points, 11 rebounds, eight assists, and a block. Her totals for the week were: 84 points (33/63 FG, 15/18 FT), 31 rebounds, 16 steals, 21 assists, and three blocks.
Against Morton College, Dumoulin scored 32 points, and had six rebounds, five steals, and two assists. Against the College of Lake County, she scored 21 points with ten rebounds, and one assist. And against Waubonsee Community College Dumoulin scored 17 points, to go along with ten rebounds, three assists, and one block. Her totals for the week were:  70 points, 26 rebounds 18/19 FT, six assists, five steals, and one blocked shot. Dumoulin is now the all-time leading scorer in Spartans women's basketball history with 1,437 points!

 

February 11, 2019

Division II - District D: Hennessey Handy, Moraine Valley Community College
Against McHenry County College, Hennessey scored 25 points, had five rebounds, five assists, and two steals. Against Prairie State College, Hennessey scored 13 points with five rebounds, five assists, and two steals. Her totals for the week were: 38 points (15/36 FG, 5/15 3 Pt, 3/7 FT), ten rebounds, ten assists, and four steals.

Division II - District L: Margie Villaruz, Black Hawk College
Against Sauk Valley Community College, Villaruz scored 11 points, had four rebounds, five assists, and three steals. Against South Suburban College, she scored 25 points with three rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Her totals for the week were: 36 Points (13/25 FG, 5/11 3 pt, 5/10 FT), seven rebounds, nine assists, and five steals.

Division III: Talia Edwards, Joliet Junior College
Against Rock Valley College, Edwards scored 21 points, to go along with 17 rebounds, four assists, three steals, and two blocks. Against Triton College, Talia scored ten points, had six rebounds, and one block. Her totals for the week were: 31 points (14/37 FG, 1/4 3 FG, 2/4 FT), 23 rebounds, four assists, three steals, and three blocks.

 

February 4, 2019

Division II - District D: Ava Gardner, Oakton Community College
Against Morton College, Gardner scored 29 points (8/14 FG, 3/7 3 PT, 9/10 FT), and collected two rebounds and three assists.

Division II - District L: Maddy McCoy, Bryant & Stratton College
Against the Marquette University Club team, McCoy posted a double-double of 13 points (6/13 FG, 1/1 FT) and 16 rebounds, to go along with three steals and three blocks.

 

January 29, 2019

Division I: Lamichael Dean, Kennedy-King College
Against Kankakee Community College, Dean had11 points, eight rebounds, and four steals. Against Richard Daley College, Lamichael scored 11 points with 14 rebounds, four assists, and five steals. Dean's totals for the week were: 22 points (9/33 FG, 1/3 3 Pt, 3/5 FT), 22 rebounds, four assists, and nine steals.

Division II - District D: Yasmarella Thompson, South Suburban College
Against Harry S. Truman College, Thompson scored 21 point and had six rebounds. Against Kankakee Community College, she scored 32 points with four rebounds, four steals, and one assist. Thompson's totals for the week were: 53 points (22/33 FG, 8/10 FT, 1/2 3 pt), ten rebounds, four steals, and one assist.

Division II - District L: Danayzia Stuckey, Carl Sandburg College
Against Bryant & Stratton College, Stuckey scored 24 points (6/12 3 pt), grabbed three rebounds, dished out four assists, and collected three steals.

Division III: Rachel Dumoulin, Elgin Community College
Against Waubonsee Community College, Dumoulin scored 20 points, and had 12 rebounds and two assists. Against the College of Lake County, she scored 18 points with five rebounds, one assist, and two steals. Her totals for the week were: 38 points, 17 rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

 

January 21, 2019

Division II - District L: Kayla Battle, Waubonsee Community College
Against Prairie State College, Battle scored 12 points, had 11 rebounds, two steals, and one assist. Against Morton College, she scored 11 points, had six rebounds, three steals, and four assists. Battle's totals for the week were: 23 points (9/14FG, 3/5 FT), 17 rebounds, five steals, and five assists.

Division III: Aniah Williams, Madison College
Against the College of DuPage, Williams scored 25 points, had five rebounds, six steals, and five assists. Against Triton College, she scored 19 points, had one rebound, one steal, and one assist. Williams' totals for the week were 44 points (17/42 FG, 5/7 FT, 5/19 3 PT), six rebounds, seven steals, and six assists.

 

January 14, 2019

Division II - District D: Danisha Magette, South Suburban College
In her two games against Parkland College and Elmhurst College JV, Magette was 14/29 (48%) from the field and 13/15 (86%) from the free throw line. She scored 19 points against Parkland and 25 points against Elmhurst JV. Magette had 13 rebounds, ten assists, and eight steals for an average of 22 points, 6.5 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 4.0 steals.

Division II - District L: Brandilyn Robertson, Bryant & Stratton College
In her game against Bay College (MI), Robertson scored 11 points (2/6 FG, 0/1 3 PT, 7/8 FT), and added nine rebounds, eight blocks, one assist, and one steal.

Division III: Mariel Franco, Elgin Community College
Against Morton College, Franco scored 32 points, pulled down three rebounds, and had three steals and two assists. Against Prairie State College, she scored 13 points, to go along with two rebounds, three assists, one steal, and a pair of blocks. And against Moraine Valley Community College, Franco tallied 21 points, six rebounds, three assists, one steal, and a blocked shot. Her totals for the week were: 66 points, 11 rebounds, eight assists, five steals, and three blocked shots.

 

January 7, 2019

Division II - District L: Cecsa Vardman, Kishwaukee College
Against Prairie State College, Vardman scored ten points, pulled down three rebounds, and collected one assist and three steals. Against Madison College, Vardman scored 20 points with seven rebounds, five assists, and ten steals. Against Parkland College, she scored nine points, and had three rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Her totals for the three games were: 39 points (9/43 FG, 3/8 3-Pt, 18/28 FT), 13 rebounds, nine assists, and 15 steals.

Division III: Kiera Guerrero, Elgin Community College
Against Aurora University JV, Guerrero scored 12 points, pulled down four rebounds, and had four assists. Against Joliet Junior College, she scored 12 points with five rebounds, one assist, and three steals. Her totals for the week were: 24 points (7/15 FG, 2/14 3 PT, 4/7 FT), nine rebounds, five assists, and three steals!

 

December 17, 2018

Division I: Damaris Green, Malcolm X College
Against Harper College, Green scored 27 points and had 10 rebounds. In her game against Prairie State College, she scored 16 points, and had nine rebounds, two assists, one steal, and one block. Green's totals for the week were 43 points (12/30 FG at 40%, 19/24 FT at 79.2%), nine rebounds, two assists, a steal, and a block.

Division II - District D: Ashley Hunter, Moraine Valley Community College
Against seventh-ranked St. Louis, Hunter scored 20 points, and had six rebounds, six assists, two steals, and one block. She was 5 of 10 from the floor, 2 of 2 from the 3 point line, and 2 of 2 from the FT line.  Against Wright College, Hunter scored 28 points, to go along with five rebounds and three assists. She was 11 of 16 from the floor, 4 of 7 from the 3 point line, and 2 for 2 from the FT line. Her totals for the week were 28 points, 11 rebounds, nine assists, four steals, and three blocks. She was 16 for 26 from the floor, 6 of 9 from the 3 point line, and 10 of 12 from the free point line.

Division II - District L: Taynique Hawthorne, Bryant & Stratton College
Against College of Lake County, Hawthorne scored 13 points, and had three rebounds, three assists, and three steals. In her game against Joliet Junior College, Hawthorne scored 12 points, and registered five assists and five steals. Against Owens Community College (OH), she had 12 points, three rebounds, five assists, and two steals. Her totals for the week were 37 points (11/19 FG at 58%, 4/7 3 point at 55%, 11/16 FT at 70%), six rebounds, 15 assists, and ten steals.

Division III: Aniah Williams, Madison College (2)
Against UW-Waukesha, Williams scored 22 points, pulled down three rebounds, had one steal, and two assists. Against UW-Richland, Williams scored 20 points, and posted seven rebounds, two steals, and five assists. Her totals for the week were 42 points (16/29 FG at 55%, 5/6 FT at 83%, 5/8 3 Pt at 63%), ten rebounds, three steals, and seven assists.

 

December 10, 2018

Division I: Tyla Allen, Malcolm X College
Against Triton College, Allen scored eight points, had six rebounds, one steal, and one block. In her game against Joliet Junior College, she scored ten points, had eight rebounds, two steals, two blocks, and an assist. Allen capped the week with 17 points, 19 rebounds, two steals, and a block against Morton College. Her totals for the week were:  35 points (10/25 FG, 15/23 FT), 33 rebounds, five steals, four blocks, and one assist.

Division II - District D: Kate Ruzevich, Moraine Valley Community College (2)
Against Joliet Junior College, Ruzevich scored 31 points, had 18 rebounds, six assists, three steals, and three blocks. She was also 5/10 from the 3-point line. Against Kennedy-King College, she scored 30 points, had nine rebounds, two assists, four steals, and was 5/10 from the 3 point line.  For the week, Ruzevich scored 61 points and had 27 rebounds, eight assists, seven steals, and three blocks while going 10/20 from the 3 point line.

Division II - District L: Morgan Baker, Kishwaukee College
In her game against the College of DuPage, Baker scored 19 points and had 14 rebounds, five assists, three steals, and a block. Against Wilbur Wright College, she had 22 points, 11 rebounds, two assists, and five steals. Her totals for the week were 41 points (7/8 FT, 6/29 3 PT), 25 rebounds, seven assists, eight steals, and one block.

Division III - Evonne Strahm, Madison College
Against Western Technical College, Strahm scored 16 points (7/18 FG, 2/2 FT) and had 13 rebounds, two steals, and one assist.

 

December 3, 2018

Division II - District D: Kate Ruzevich, Moraine Valley Community College
Ruzevich scored 24 points (9/13 FG, 1/1 3-pointers, 5/8 free throws) in her game against Triton College. Kate also had 16 rebounds, five assists, and two steals.

Division II - District L: Rachel Dumoulin, Elgin Community College
In her game against Kishwaukee College, Dumoulin scored 28 points, had nine rebounds, and four steals.  Against NCAA Division III Benedictine Univ. JV, she scored 24 points with nine rebounds, and then scored 20 points with four rebounds and two steals against Madison. Dumoulin's totals for the week were: 72 points (24/61 FG, 22/24 free throws, 2/12 3-pointers), 22 rebounds, six steals, and 1 assist.

Division III: Aniah Williams, Madison College
Williams scored 18 points, had five rebounds, two steals, and one assist against Bryant & Stratton College. Against Elgin Community College, Williams scored 18 points with six rebounds and a pair of steals.  Her totals for the week were: 36 points (15/35 FG, 2-13 3-pt., 13/20 FT), 11 rebounds, four steals, and an assist.
