Region IV student-athletes earn 14 fall NJCAA All-American awards

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) has released its list of All-American for the 2017 fall sports season, and 14 student-athletes represent NJCAA Region IV. The group includes seven All-Americans in volleyball, four in men's soccer, and three in women's soccer. Harper College, which finished runner-up at the NJCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Championships, boasts three first team selections and four total All-Americans.

Region IV representatives Moraine Valley Community College and Madison College were both denied wins at the 2017 NJCAA Women's Soccer National Championships. The Cyclones, winners of the Region IV Division I title, failed to score a goal in two matches, while Madison College, making their first-ever appearance at the Division III National Tournament, came up short in two closely contested matches.

The nation's second best goal scorer turned out to be the top overall player as Waubonsee Community College's Kayley Garland was named the 2017 Region IV Division I Player of the Year. Region IV Tournament champs Moraine Valley Community College led all teams with six players on the all-region teams. Garland and teammate Nicole Koczka received the region's top All-American nominations as the top two vote-getters, followed by Moraine Valley's Patty Rzadkosz and South Suburban College's Nataly Porras. Garland finished the season with 35 goals scored, two back of the national leader in NJCAA Division I.

NJCAA tabs Waubonsee's Garland for Player of the Week

The National Junior College Athletic Assocation (NJCAA) has named Waubonsee Community College's Kayley Garland as its Division III Player of the Week for October 23-29 (Week 9). The honor is the first such award for the Garland, as well as for the Chiefs, this season.

PALOS HILLS, ILL. - The two-time defending champs found themselves down early before a barrage of goals propelled Moraine Valley Community College to a 5-2 defeat of Waubonsee Community College to win the 2017 Region IV Division I Women's Soccer Tournament Championship. The Cyclones have won three consecutive Region IV titles and will represent the region at the NJCAA Division I Women's Soccer Championships.

In a region that boasts six of the top 13 goal scorers in the nation, Joliet Junior College's Hailey Arlis proved to be the cream of the crop in being named the 2017 Region IV Player of the Year. The Wolves and Region IV champions Madison College both placed six players on the all-region teams, the most of any team in the region. As the top vote-getter, Arlis is the region's top All-American nominee, followed by Julia Szlke of Harper College. The duo tied for the most goals in NJCAA Division III with 40.

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) has recognized two Region IV student-athletes as women's soccer Players of the Week, with Brooke Janeczek of Moraine Valley Community College earning the honor in Division I and Joliet Junior College's Hailey Arlis selected in Division III for October 16-22 (Week 8). For Janeczek, the honor is the first such of her career, and the first of the season for the Cyclones. Arlis was also named player of the week for the first week of the season, making this her second national award of the year.

Madison wins first Region IV title with 1-0 decision

JOLIET, ILL. - The Madison College women's soccer team used a 4' goal to win the 2017 Region IV Division III Championship, the first in program history. Just the fourth year of the program, the WolfPack used a 4' goal by freshman Erin True and six saves from sophomore Brandie Gospodarek to defeat Joliet Junior College by a 1-0 final.

NJCAA names DuPage's Philips as DIII Player of the Week

The National Junior College Athletics Association (NJCAA) has named Melissa Philips of the College of DuPage as its Division III Player of the Week for September 11-17 (Week 3). The weekly award is the first such honor for Philips and the Chaparrals in 2017.

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) has announced its first weekly national awards recipients for the 2017-18 season, and Joliet Junior College's Hailey Arlis was named the Division III Player of the Week for Weeks 1 and 2 (August 21-September 3). The honor is the first such award for Arlis and for the Wolves this season.
