MVCC's Schultz leads Region 4 contingent at NJCAA nationals

TYLER, TEXAS - Several Region 4 teams competed at the 2023 NJCAA Division I Women's Tennis Championships from May 6-9, with region champion Moraine Valley Community College registering its best team finish. The Cyclones racked up 8.0 points to finish 21 out of 29 teams, with Sauk Valley Community College in 26th with 1.0 point and Oakton College tied for 28th. 

Aubree Schultz, a freshman from Manhattan, Illinois, earned a fifth place individual finish in the No. 4 Singles Flight. After a two-set loss to open the tournament, she went on to win her consolation quarterfinal 8-2, the consolation semifinal 8-5, and the consolation final 8-4. First year player Simona Tomczak also reached the consolation semifinal in No. 2 Singles. Hannah Markiewicz (No. 3) and Reagan Cameron (No. 6) both won their opening matches. Overall, the Cyclones were 6-9 in singles matches and 1-6 in doubles matches.

The Skyhawks saw Madison Hubbs pick up an 8-4 win in the No. 5 Singles consolation quarterfinal.

Hillsborough Community College won the team title for the second time with 46.0 points, winning titles in three singles brackets and two doubles flights.
