Sandburg's Bowman, Harper's Gueco receive first wave of NJCAA national honoros

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) has selected a pair of NJCAA Region IV players for national weekly honors. Carl Sandburg College's Peyton Bowman and Harper College's Kathleen Gueco were each named the Offensive Player of the Week for August 22-September 2 (Week 1) in Divisions II and III, respectively. The honors are the first of the season for each players and for their programs.

Gueco, a 5'7" freshman setter, posted six double-doubles as Harper College started 8-2. The Hoffman Estates, Illinois, native amassed 299 assists, 114 digs, 19 kills, and ten aces in those ten matches, including three contests with 41 or more assists. During that stretch the Hawks ascended from a #2 preseason ranking to #1 in the NJCAA Division III Poll.

Bowman, a 6'3" freshman middle blocker, registered 101 kills and a .533 attack percentage over twelve matches to start the season. She reached double-digit kills in five of those matches, including a season-high 15 in a 3-0 sweep of St. Claire County (MI) Community College. Also during the season's opening weeks, she finished with a hitting efficiency over .700 in four matches, with a season-best .833 against Iowa Lakes Community College (10 kills, 0 errors, 12 attempts). Bowman also had 23 blocks and five aces to help the Chargers start 9-3.
