Region 4 Hall of Fame welcomes nine-member Class of 2024 for induction

The NJCAA Region 4 Hall of Fame is pleased to announce a nine-member induction Class of 2024. The group includes six student-athletes and three coaches that excelled during their time competing in Region 4. The inductees represent six different Region 4 schools, including two inductees each for the College of DuPage, Oakton College, and Rock Valley College.

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) has released its list of All-Americans for the 2023-24 fall sports season, and 18 student-athletes representing Region 4 were recognized. The group includes six from men's cross country, five in women's volleyball, three from women's cross country and women's soccer, and one from men's soccer. There are eight first team recipients, seven second team honorees, and three honorable mention distinctions. The student-athletes represent eight Region 4 institutions.

Harper successfully defends NJCAA crown, Alberts sprints to individual national title

HUNTSVILLE, ALA. - Harper College was a dominant force at the 2023 NJCAA Women's Cross Country Championships at John Hunt Park, winning the Division III title for the second consecutive year and the fifth time in school history. Sophomore Lilly Alberts coasted to an individual national championship as the Hawks paced a healthy contingent of 23 Region 4 runners in both Division III and Division II.

GENEVA, ILL. - Harper College successfully defended its region crown, while Waubonsee Community College snapped a ten-year title drought at the 2023 NJCAA Region 4 Division II & III Women's Cross Country Championships on Saturday, October 28. The Skyhawks picked up their sixth region championship in Division II with 26 points, while the Hawks registered an impressive team total of 19 to take the Division III banner for the second consecutive. Carl Sandburg College's Sharon Yego and Lilly Alberts of Harper College earned individual titles, with Eric Baron and Jim Macnider earning Region 4 Coach of the Year accolades.

KENOSHA, WISC. - As if connected in some strange way, both Carl Sandburg College and Harper College returned to the top of the women's cross country podium for the first time since 2019 with respective team titles at the 2022 NJCAA Region 4 Division II & Division III Women's Cross Country Championship on October 29. The Chargers registered 99 points to defeat second place Sauk Valley Community College by 13, while the Hawks' 36 points narrowly paced runner-up Joliet Junior College (42) and third place College of DuPage (78). Sophomore Lillian Buzani of the College of DuPage clocked in with the best overall time at 20:18.5 to earn Region 4 Athlete of the Year in Division III after finishing second as a freshman, and third-year runner Izamar Rodriguez took advantage of her extra eligibility to improve on her sixth-place run in 2021 to win the Region 4 Division II Athlete of the Year with a time of 20:53.7. Rodney Blue of Carl Sandburg College and Jim Macnider of Harper College took home Region 4 Coach of the Year accolades.

MALTA, ILL. - A highly-competitive day of races ended with Moraine Valley Community College and Joliet Junior College claiming the 2021 NJCAA Region 4 Women's Cross Country titles in Divisions II and III, respectively. The individual championships were awarded to Carly Leonard of the College of Lake County in Division II and the Wolves' Tiffany Lehmann in Division III.

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) has named Joliet Junior College's Tiffany Lehmann as the Division II Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week for September 14-20 (Week 3). The award is the first such honor for Lehmann, and the first this season for the Wolves.

GALESBURG, ILL. - The 2019 NJCAA Region IV Division 1 & III Women's Cross Country Championships at Carl Sandburg College on Saturday, October 26 saw a new and a repeat champion crowned. The host Chargers earned their first Region IV title in school history in the Division I field, while Harper College earned yet another as they repeated atop the Division III field. Carl Sandburg narrowly got past second place College of DuPage, earning 53 points to beat the Chaparrals by two. Harper College finished with 14 points and were unopposed. The DI Runner fo the Year went to Oakton Community College freshman Souleya Ibrahim with a time of 18:16.9, and in DIII, Joliet Junior College sophomore Ana Pineda improved upon her fourth-place finish from a year earlier to claim Runner of the Year with a school-record time of 19:46.0. Region IV Coach of the Year accolades went to Rodney Blue of Carl Sandburg College and Jim Macnider of Harper College.

WESTFIELD, MASS. - The Fall of 2018 proved to be another banner year for Harper College cross country, which swept the NJCAA Division III Men's and Women's Cross Country National Championships for the third straight year at Stanley Park. The Hawks took the men's title for the eighth consecutive season with 38 points to win by 45 points over Sandhills Community College (NC), while the women's third crowning achievement also finished with 38 points to best Oxford Emory College (GA) by 51 points.
