Assistant Women's Basketball Coach - Illinois Valley Community College

Job Description: The Assistant Coach is responsible for assisting the Head Coach in the aspects of operation and team management including recruitment, training, coaching, fundraising, and retention of qualified student-athletes. These duties should be completed in a manner that is consistent with the Core Values of IVCC.  

Salary Range: This seasonal, part-time position is paid according to the athletic salary schedule for assistant coaches, an annual stipend of $4,000.  

Qualifications: Experience in basketball through coaching and/or participation is mandatory, with three years of coaching experience preferred. Knowledge of current basketball concepts regarding coaching techniques, strategy, rules, etc. High school diploma or equivalent required, Bachelor’s Degree preferred. A valid driver’s license and satisfactory motor vehicle record (MVR) are required, with the ability to organize and work effectively as a member of the Athletic Department team, as well as one-on-one and within groups including: student-athletes, faculty, administrators, staff, community members, and others. Ability to adapt to differences and changes in programs, colleagues, student-athletes, and community characteristics. Demonstrated competency to serve in a coaching capacity.

Head Men's Basketball Coach - Kishwaukee College

Job Description: 

The Head Coach provides leadership and management to produce a high-quality intercollegiate team that represents a commitment to both academic and athletic excellence. Perform on-court coaching and instruction. Other duties include, but are not limited to: recruiting, scouting, maintaining statistics, scheduling games, making travel arrangements, monitoring academics, purchasing equipment, exercising good judgment, and making independent decisions in budgeting.

Minimum Qualifications/Basic Job Requirements:

  • Minimum two years’ experience as a college or high school varsity coach.
  • Experience with club coaching and/or recent connections with surrounding club team 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and five years of collegiate coaching desired.
  • Recent Experience with club coaching and/or recent connections with surrounding club team

Examples of Essential Functions:

  • Perform on-court coaching, teaching and instruction.
  • Primary role in recruiting student-athletes to Basketball program.
  • Maintain team and individual statistics, report scores to media.
  • Supervise Assistant Coach and/or Volunteer Assistant Coaches as hired.
  • Help to maintain College equipment.
  • Adhere to sport budget, including travel, supply, contractual and printing accounts.
  • Travel and drive to all contests.
  • Monitoring academic progress of student-athletes.
  • Coordinate fundraising for the program and deposit monies as received.
  • Athletic coaches are Campus Security Authorities per the Jeane Clery Handbook, required to undergo annual training for reporting specific criminal offenses
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, planning, leadership skills, attention to detail, flexibility, initiative and sound judgment.
  • Ability and commitment to recruit instruct and motivate college student athletes.

  • Must possess a valid Illinois Driver's License and have a good driving record.

Workload Summary:

  • Position requires moderate physical activity /individual dexterity to demonstrate basketball skills.
  • Position may be required to lift 25 on infrequent occasions.

Assistant Women's Volleyball Coach - Wilbur Wright College

Job Description: 

The Athletics Department of Wilbur Wright College, one of the City Colleges of Chicago, seeks an Assistant Coach – Part-Time to support the Head Coach in the oversight and activities of the intercollegiate women’s volleyball team. This position provides leadership in the development and evaluation of the team and individual student-athletes. The Assistant Coach – Part-Time provides dynamic, strategic, and visionary leadership designed to enhance student success through the focus on an “Academics-first Agenda.”

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists the Head Coach in instruction and analysis of student-athletes.
  • Provides skill demonstrations of sport coached.
  • Critiques athletes’ performance to determine skills and abilities that need strengthening for overall team improvement.
  • Assists with the recruitment of student-athletes.
  • Advises students with respect to athletic performance and other personal development issues. Ensures that athletes reach their academic goals by monitoring class attendance and ensuring they receive academic support, as necessary.
  • Assists with assessment of equipment, uniforms, and other necessary apparel and needs. Assists with making team travel arrangements in accordance with the Board’s purchasing guidelines.
  • Assists with scheduling pre-season, season, and other games and tournaments. Assists with training, practices, and coaching in league, conference, and tournament play.
  • Assists with the preparation and maintenance of mandatory national and regional reports.
  • Ensures that the conduct of self and athletes is in compliance with the City Colleges of Chicago Athletic Governance Policy and Athletic Participation Policy.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completion of an Associate’s Degree required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred, preferably in Physical Education or related field supplemented by 2-3 years of coaching and/or professional playing experience.
  • Must be familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular sport.
  • First Aid Certification and current CPR/AED Certification by the American Heart Association or the Red Cross preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, planning, and leadership skills required.
  • Familiarity with the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) rules and regulations a plus.
  • Must be able to serve as a positive role model for young adults.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Coaches are hired on a season by season basis. A reasonable effort is made to assure future coaching assignments to those coaches who have had a history of successful academic and athletic team performances at City Colleges of Chicago.
  • All coaching assignments are conditioned on sufficient team membership. Once a season starts, the coach is expected to complete the season.
