First-ever Region 4 women's golf championship goes to Kishwaukee

GALESBURG, ILL. - The first-ever women's golf championship held within Region 4 (NJCAA Midwest District) saw Kishwaukee College claim the team title over runner-up Carl Sandburg College on October 5 & 6 at Lake Bracken Country Club. 

The Kougars secured a nine-shot lead after Round 1 with a 426 team total, and held off the Chargers in Round 2 despite being out-shot 431-439 to claim the team title by a single stroke with an 865 final tally. Amber Fellows was tops for Kishwaukee with a 188, followed by Nina Baratta (211), Jillian Fuchs (222), and Kylee Heck (244). 

The individual title went to Abby Hamman of Alexandria Technical & Community College in Alexandria, Minnesota. She came over from Region 13 to fire a 23-over-par 169 (84-85) to best runner-up Averi Heintzelman of Carl Sandburg College by 17. Heintzelman carded a consistent 186 with back-to-back rounds of 93.

Kishwaukee College and Abby Hamman automatically qualify for the 2021 NJCAA Division I Women's Golf Championships at Timacuan Golf & Country Club in Lake Mary, Florida, from May 9-12, 2022.
