Epic comeback highlights Madison College run to fifth at NJCAA DII World Series

ENID, OKLA. - Seeking the program's fourth national championship and the first since 1997, the Madison College baseball team came up short at the 2018 NJCAA Division II World Series with a fifth-place finish after going 1-2. The WolfPack were making their eighth trip to the DII national tournament and their 13th overall after a run of dominance at the DIII level in the 1990's.

Trailing 9-1 after three innings in their opener against #3-seeded Kirkwood Community College (IA), the #6-seeded WolfPack rattled off 17 unanswered runs to earn an incredible 18-9 upset. Nick Gile, who went 3 for 6 with six RBI and three runs scored, and Logan Michaels each homered as part of an 18-hit effort for the 'Pack. In the quarterfinals, Madison College fell to #2-seeded Parkland College (IL) by a 9-6 final. The 'Pack took a 5-3 lead in the sixth before the eventual national runners-up answered with three runs each in the sixth and seventh.

Madison College eventually saw their season close in an elimination game against #7-seeded Scottsdale Community College (AZ) with a 4-2 loss.

Sophomore catcher Logan Michaels was named to the All-Tournament Team. The DeForest, Wisconsin, native and University of Virginia commit batted .533 with eight hits in 15 at-bats, four runs batted in, four runs scored, a double, and a home run in the WolfPack's three games. He was 6 for 6 in the tournament opener.

Madison College, which went to a NJCAA-record six consecutive DII World Series from 2010-2015, finished the season with a 35-22 record.
