Williams, Highland crowned Region IV Division I champions
FREEPORT, ILL. - For the second time in three years, Highland Community College is the NJCAA Region IV Division I Women's Basketball Tournament Champions, earning the honor with an 85-77 win over second-seeded Sauk Valley Community College. The top-seeded and host Cougars (17-10) advanced to the NJCAA District D Championship against Region XIII winner, North Dakota State College of Science, but fell 71-62 in Wahpeton, North Dakota.
In the Region IV final, De'Azia Williams drained four 3-pointers en route to a game-high 25 points and Tournament MVP accolades. Sharee Herrod posted 23 points, while Wynter Townsend registered a triple-double of 13 points, 13 assists, and 11 rebounds. Highland earned a first-round bye in the tournament, defeated fifth-seeded Kennedy-King College in a 94-40 drubbing in the semifinals.
