McHenry's Iverson tabbed as NJCAA Player of the Week

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) has named McHenry County College's Alyssa Iverson as the Division II Women's Basketball Player of the Week for January 20-26 (Week 10). This is the first national honor for Iverson, and the first this season for the Scots. Iverson was also named Region IV Division II - District L Player of the Week for the same time period, marking her third time receiving that distinction this season.

Iverson, a 5'7" sophomore guard, averaged 32.0 points, 3.7 assists, and 3.0 rebounds over three games. She opened the week with 28 points in a win over the Elmhurst College JV, and followed it up with a career-high 44-point effort as MCC defeated Moraine Valley Community College. More than half of her points in that game came from the free throw line, as Iverson was 23 of 24 from the stripe and finished 40 of 44 from that spot for the week. She also added four rebounds, five assists, and three steals against the Cyclones. The week ended in a loss to #10 Bryant & Stratton College, however, Iverson was able to tally 24 points with four 3-pointers in the contest.

For the season, Iverson ranks second in the nation and region in scoring at 26.3 points, to go along with 4.4 assists and 2.7 rebounds. The Scots are currently receiving votes in the latest NJCAA Division II Poll.
