Joliet's Johnson nabs NJCAA Player of the Week accolade

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) has named Joliet Junior College's Lynese Johnson as the Division III Women's Basketball Player of the Week for January 27-February 2 (Week 11). The award is the first such honor for Johnson, and the first this season for the Wolves. Johnson also earned Region IV Division III Player of the Week recognition, marking the second time in three weeks.

Johnson, a sophomore forward, averaged 26.5 points and 11.0 rebounds while hitting 62.5% of her three-point attempts over a pair of wins for Joliet Junior College. The 6'1" native of Bolingbrook, Illinois, posted 24 points and was 4 for 4 from long range against Wilbur Wright College. She also added a career-high 15 rebounds, two assists, two steals, and one block. Then against Milwaukee Area Technical College, Johnson tallied a career-best 29 points with ten field goals and an 8 for 11 effort at the free throw line, to go along with seven boards, six assists, and a blocked shot. For the week, she was 51.3% (19-37) from the field and 5 of 8 outside the arc. 

This season Johnson is averaging 16.6 points and 9.9 rebounds over 11 games.
