Carl Sandburg secures first Region 4 title in women's golf

NORTHBROOK, ILL. - It was a two-horse race to the finish line at the second-ever Region 4 Division I & III Women's Golf Tournament, held October 3-4 at Heritage Oaks Golf Club, and in the end, Carl Sandburg College recorded a resounding victory over Alexandria Technical & Community College (MN/Region 13). The Chargers finished with a two-round, 36-hole team total of 756 to earn a 188-stroke victory over the Legends (944). Abby Hamman of Alexandria Tech was the medalist with a 163 (+19) after rounds of 81 and 82.
Carl Sandburg College took advantage of four sub-100 rounds on Day 1 to create a 377 to 453 lead, and was able to cruise to victory on Day 2.
Hamman, the defending champion from the 2021 tournament, also cleared herself from the field with an 11-shot advantage heading into Round 2, where she added another eight strokes of cushion between her and second place Lainey Jensen of CSC with a 182 (+38) total.
The tournament featured players from five schools, including Skylar Jollette of the College of DuPage as the only Division III competitor. She qualifies for the 2023 NJCAA Division III Women's Golf Championship, which is an open invite at Chautauqua Golf Club in Chautauqua, New York, from June 6-9, 2023.
