Wasson leads Carl Sandburg to repeat Region 4 crown

BYRON, ILL. - The Carl Sandburg College women's golf team successfully defended their region title by claiming the 2024 NJCAA Region 4 Women's Golf Tournament championship on April 14-15 at PrairieView Golf Club. The Chargers shot team scores of 371 and 358 to post a 36-hole team total of 729. Sophomore Ellie Wasson was the Region 4 Medalist with a 176 total to beat Megan Redig of Rock Valley College by a single stroke. Gail Hannam was named Region 4 Coach of the Year for the second time. 2024 NJCAA Region 4 Women's Golf Tournament Final Results
Wasson followed up an opening round 94 with a tournament-best ten-over-par 82 to sneak past Redig, who shot rounds of 89 and 88. Carl Sandburg College also counted scores of 180 from Ava Hackman, 187 from Lauren Minkel, and 192 from Kylie Fahnestock. Addyson Trego was the Chargers fifth player and finish with a 193.
Carl Sandburg College qualified for the NJCAA Central District Tournament at Twin Hills Golf & Country Club in Joplin, Missouri, from April 22-23. The Chargers finished third with a 785 (386-399) to miss qualifying for the 2024 NJCAA Women's Golf Championships by 29 shots. Ava Hackman was the top individual for CSC with a 12th-place finish at 191 (94-97), one shot ahead of teammate Lauren Minkel.
