Moraine Valley completes four-peat with Region IV title

PALOS HILLS, ILL. - Moraine Valley Community College is once again champions of the NJCAA Region IV Division I Women's Soccer Tournament after defeating Waubonsee Community College by a 4-1 final to claim their fourth consecutive title. The top-seeded Cyclones handed the second-seeded Chiefs a fourth consecutive loss in the region finale en route to an unbeaten 19-0-1 record.

Veronika Stafira and Karen Montoya both scored in the first half for a 2-0 lead. Brooke Janeczek made it a three-goal lead before Waubonsee (17-3-1) tallied their lone goal. The scoring was capped by Yesenia Perez, who assisted on the prior goal. Mairead Ruane recorded two assists in the victory, and was awarded the Region IV Tournament Most Valuable Player. Al Palar was given yet another Region IV Coach of the Year award.

Moraine Valley advances to the NJCAA North Central Distrist Tournament, which the Cyclones will host on November 3 in Palos Hills, Illinois. The Cyclones, ranked #15 in the NJCAA Division I Poll, will take on #9 Monroe Community College (NY) for the right to go to the NJCAA Division I Women's Soccer Championships in Foley, Alabama, from November 12-17. Both teams will enter as one of the top ten scoring teams in the country.
