Lake County rolls to first Region IV title since 2013

GRAYSLAKE, ILL. - The College of Lake County wasted little time in making sure their would be a new champion of the region in 2019. The #1-seeded Lancers racked up a 4-1 victory over #3-seed and four-time defending champion Moraine Valley Community College on November 3. The championship is the third in the last eight years for the College of Lake County, and their first since topping Waubonsee Community College in 2013.

After an unassisted goal in the first four minutes of the match, sophomore forward Rachel Moore took over with a championship hat trick. The Antioch, Illinois, native tallied scoring strikes in the 14', 61', and 76' to make it a 4-0 lead before the Cyclones notched their lone goal in the 87'. Moore, who has scored ten postseason goals and ranks fifth in the nation with 37 goals on the season, was named Region IV Tournament Most Valuable Player. Second year coach Kevin Talbot was named Region IV Coach of the Year. 

 

 

The loss for Moraine Valley Community College ended the Cyclones season with a 13-5 record.

The College of Lake County will host the NJCAA Great Lakes District Tournament on November 8-9, which will be played at the Libertyville Soccer Complex. The three-team tournament will begin on Friday with a 1:00 p.m. match between the Lancers and Monroe Community College (NY), which won the Region III title with an 11-4-2 record. The winner will play Saturday against Region XII winner Muskegon Community College (MI), who are 11-5 overall. The tournament champion will advance to the 2019 NJCAA Division I Women's Soccer Championship in Melbourne, Florida, from November 18-23.
