Moraine Valley pushes to top of Region 4 women's tennis

PALOS HILLS, ILL. - Moraine Valley Community College snapped an eight year drought by claiming the 2022 NJCAA Region 4 Division I Women's Tennis Championship on October 7-8, and did so on their home courts. The Cyclones, who won region titles in 2012 and 2014, finished with 21.0 points to earn a 5.5 point victory over runner-up Sauk Valley Community College. College of Lake County sophomore Mia Falconi was awarded the Region 4 Player of the Year and the Region 4 Sportsmanship Award, while Matt Marusarz of MVCC was given the Region 4 Coach of the Year.

Falconi, who finished runner-up in the Singles Flight #1 bracket as a freshman, defeated Zarina Sayed of Oakton Community College in straight sets to win the top flight in 2022. Moraine Valley Community College went on to win four of the next five flights as Simona Tomczak (Flight #2), Hannah Markiewcz (Flight #3), Aubree Schultz (Flight #4), and Reagan Cameron (Flight #6) each claimed an individual title. Sauk Valley's Madison Hubbs was the champion in Flight #5, while two of her teammates claimed runner-up honors.

In doubles, SVCC finished atop Flight #1 as Saryn Seeley and Chloe Coil took down the duo of Olivia Weeds and Brianna Strehl from Illinois Valley Community College in the title match. The remaining two flights went to the Cyclones, with Aubree Schultz and Cate Gerl winning in Flight #2 and Simona Tomczak and Erica Chapan standing atop the Flight #3 bracket.

Moraine Valley Community College, as well as Falconi and Bethany Lintner of CLC, and Hubbs, Seeley, and Coil of SVCC, qualify for the 2023 NJCAA Division I Women's Tennis Championships in Tyler, Texas, from May 6-10.

Region 4 Division III

The College of DuPage was the lone Division III women's tennis team in Region 4, and was able to compete at the 2022 NJCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championships in Peachtree, Georgia, from November 4-6. The Chaparrals finished eighth overall with 0.5 points, thanks to a No. 3 singles victory by Alexandra Russell. (College of DuPage recap)
