TITLE DEFENDED: Harper repeats with 2024 NJCAA Division III Track & Field title

UTICA, NY - Defending champions Harper College led a strong contingent of Region 4 teams and student-athletes, and came away with a repeat championship at the 2024 NJCAA Division III Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships from May 9-11. The Hawks racked up 194.0 total points to finish ahead of national runner-up College of DuPage with 123.0 points. Joliet Junior College placed sixth with 48.5 points, while Triton College was tied for 17th with 8.0 points. The championship is the third for Harper College, who also won in 2011 and 2023. Sophomore Lilly Alberts keyed the Hawks successful weekend with meet records in both the 400-meter and 800-meter runs, with the latter coming a year after she broke the record a first time. Harper College also took gold in four other events, with Isabella Wojciechowski winning the 5,000-meters, Chloe Wintergerst finishing first in the 100-meter hurdles, Lily Wintergerst leaping to a triple jump title, and also breaking the tape in both the 4x400 and 4x800 relays. In addition, the Hawks had second place finishes in four events and bronze medals for five other events. Alberts was named the USTFCCCA National Women's Track Athlete of the Year, with Jim Macnider earning NJCAA and USTFCCCA National Women's Coach of the Year honors. (Release: USTFCCCA)
The College of DuPage's impressive weekend was led by Patrycja Karpiesiuk, who won four titles and set a meet record in the pole vault. Teammate Ellie Logsdon was a part of three first place finishes, joining Karpiesiuk for the 4x100m relay. In all, the Chaparrals claimed six gold medals, three runner-up finishes, and two bronze medal places.
Joliet Junior College's top finishes were runner-up placements by Emma Cecich in the 3,000-meter steeple chase and Nikiya Robertson in the shot put, while Triton College's Ava Connerty was second on the podium in the 100-meter hurdles.
