72 Region 4 Spring Student-Athletes Earn NJCAA All-American

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) has released its list of All-Americans for the 2022-23 spring sports season, and 72 student-athletes representing Region 4 were recognized. The group includes 27 from men's and women's track & field, ten from baseball, and four each from men's golf and softball. There are 16 first team recipients, 19 second team honorees, five third team selections, and 12 honorable mention distinctions. The student-athletes represent nine Region 4 institutions.

DuPage surges to third place, four Region 4 individuals score All-American honors

PLYMOUTH, IND. & CHAUTAUQUA, NY - Region 4 was well represented at the NJCAA Division II Men's Golf Championships at Swan Lake Resort and the NJCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships at Chautauqua Golf Club. In all three teams and six individuals competed in the two tournaments, with the College of DuPage earning the top team finish and four individuals earning NJCAA All-American accolades (Division II | Division III).

BYRON, ILL. - Facing a two stroke deficit heading into Monday's final round of the 2023 NJCAA Region 4 Division III Men's Golf Tournament at PrairieView Golf Club, the College of DuPage didn't flinch and rallied for a four-stroke victory and their fourth consecutive Region 4 crown. The Chaparrals posted a tournament-best 308 over their final 18 holes to surpass Madison College with a 626. The WolfPack posted a 630 to finish second, with Rock Valley College taking third at 653. Brent Schmiesing, a freshman from Madison College, went wire-to-wire to claim medalist honors with a six-over-par 150.

The group includes four student-athletes, two coaches, one student-athlete & coach, one administrator, one administrator & coach, two lifetime achievement honorees, and one national championship team that excelled during their time competing in Region 4.

Moriyama repeats, leads Highland to first Region 4 championship in 20 years

BYRON, ILL. - Four teams were in contention for the 2022 NJCAA Region 4 Division II Men's Golf Championship, and when all 54 holes were completed, Highland Community College had earned its first region title since 2002. The Cougars finished with a 936 team total, two strokes better than Alexandria Technical & Community College (MN) at 938. Sophomore Riku Moriyama successfully defended his 2021 Region 4 title with a five-shot victory to finish as medalist again.

SWEET SPRING: DuPage wins men's, women's national T&F championships, places top four in men's golf & tennis

It was an unbelievable spring to be wearing Forest Green around Glen Ellyn, Illinois. The College of DuPage, which already claimed a football national championship back in the fall, capped the 2021-22 athletic calendar with a quartet of national tournament qualifiers and two more championship banners. The men's and women's track programs both successfully defended their 2021 national titles with first place finishes at the NJCAA Division III Men's & Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Troy, New York, from May 12-14, marking the third time in school history they have won championships in the same year. In addition, the Chaparrals' men's golf team finished third at the NJCAA Division III Golf Championships in Chautauqua, New York, from June 7-10, and the COD men's tennis squad generated a fourth-place finish at the NJCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championships in Oxford, Georgia, from May 13-15.

DuPage remains atop Region 4 with third straight championship

BYRON, ILL. - The NJCAA Region 4 Division III Men's Golf Tournament is becoming a repetitive exercise with the College of DuPage defeating Madison College in a head-to-head battle. The Chaparrals made it three straight Region 4 championships with a 621 to 648 victory at the two-day, 36-hole event held at PrairieView Golf Club.

Bryant & Stratton successfully defends Region 4 title

BYRON, ILL. - One year after claiming the program's first region championship, Bryant & Stratton College proved it wasn't a fluke by repeating as champions at the 2021 Region 4 Division II (Midwest District) Men's Golf Tournament at PrairieView Golf Club on October 7-9. The Bobcats posted a three-day total of 917 to finish five shots ahead of Black Hawk College and eight strokes better than Illinois Valley Community College, both of whom will join Bryant & Stratton College at the national tournament.

BYRON, ILL. - Follow a season postponed from the fall to the spring due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, the College of DuPage successfully defended their 2019 title with an 11-shot victory over Madison College at the Region 4 Division II Golf Tournament at PrairieView Golf Club on Sunday and Monday. The Chaparrals maintained a double-digit lead throughout a Covid-shortened 36-hole tournament to finish with a 644 team score.

Bryant & Stratton holds off IVCC to claim first Region IV title

BYRON, ILL. - Shortened from a three-day tournament to a two-day event, yet still featuring 54 holes, Bryant & Stratton College earned their first NJCAA Region 4 Divisoin II Men's Golf Championship at PrairieView Golf Club. The Bobcats posted a three-round total of 970 to finish three shots ahead of Illinois Valley Community College's 973. The Eagles were paced by Region 4 medalist Ian Roach as the freshman's 229 was tops among a heated race to finish in the top 15 for All-Region accolades.

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) has announced the cancellation of the 2020 spring sports seasons, as well as the cancellation of the remaining winter championships. The announcement comes amid the worldwide COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic.
