NJCAA bestows major honors to South Suburban's Carter, Milwaukee's Casey

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) looked highly upon the level of play within Region IV as it announced its 2019-20 national award winners in men's basketball. South Suburban College's Courtney Carter was selected as the NJCAA Division II National Player of the Year, while Milwaukee Area Technical College's Randy Casey was chosen as NJCAA Division II National Coach of the Year, with both awardes presented by TicketSmarter.

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) has released its list of All-Americans for the 2019-20 winter sports season, and 13 student-athletes representing NJCAA Region IV were recognized. The group includes seven from women's basketball, six from the men's basketball, and one wrestler, with six First Team All-Americans, two second team honorees, three third team selections, and two honorable mention accolades. All 13 student-athletes represented 13 different Region IV schools.

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) has announced the cancellation of the 2020 spring sports seasons, as well as the cancellation of the remaining winter championships. The announcement comes amid the worldwide COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic.

PALOS HILLS, ILL. - For one it was a successful defense as reigning champs, and for the other it was a return to the top after a one-year hiatus. The 2020 Region IV Division II Men's Basketball Tournaments ended with top-seeded Milwaukee Area Technical College defeated #2 Prairie State College by a 91-79 to claim a second straight title in the NJCAA Midwest District 3 (Region 4A) bracket, and #2-seeded South Suburban College got by #4 Carl Sandburg College 74-63 to grab a second championship in three years in the NJCAA Midwest District 4 (Region 4B) bracket.

Following a highly competitive season in Region IV, Prairie State College's Jared Johnson and South Suburban College Courtney Carter headlined the 2020 Divison II Men's Basketball All-Region IV Teams as the top vote-getters, and thus, were named the Region IV Division II Players of the Year for Midwest District 4 (Region 4B) and Midwest District 3 (Region 4A), respectively. Johnson, a 6'4" sophomore guard/forward led the region with 28.8 points and was second with 11.9 rebounds, to go along with 3.7 assists and 1.5 steals. Carter, a second year guard from Memphis, Tennessee, stuffed the stat sheets with per game averages of 15.7 points, 7.9 rebounds, 7.9 assists, and 5.5 steals. The tandem is joined by Yuri Swinford of Milwaukee Area Technical College and Moraine Valley Community College's Jalen Hughes as the region's recipients of the NJCAA All-American nominations.

For the fourth consecutive year and the second straight time in Division I, the Triton College men's basketball team can claim the top vote-getter in the region with sophomore Austin Richie taking home Region IV Player of the Year honors atop the 2020 Division I Men's Basketball All-Region IV Team. A 6'6" forward from Glenwood, Illinois, Richie led the Trojans in scoring at 16.3 points per game, all while shooting 51% from the floor and draining a team-high 110 three-pointers at a 44% clip. He also added 4.6 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.2 steals a contest. Richie, along with Cameron Burrell of Highland Community College and Michael Moshkovitz of Kankakee Community College, were recognized as the region's NJCAA All-American nominees.

Highland gets revenge on Triton, wins Region IV title

JOLIET, ILL. - The Highland Community College men's basketball team earned a measure of revenge Monday night and returned to the top of the 2020 Region IV Division I Tournament with 65-60 victory of defending champion Triton College at Joliet Junior College. The #2-seeded Cougars, who had won back-to-back region crowns, dropped a seven-point contest to the top-seeded Trojans a year ago. Highland CC has appeared in five straight championship games and have won four of the past nine.

Sophomore guard Kelvin Cortez-Harvey packed the stat sheets during the 2019-20 season, and for his efforts, was voted the 2020 Region IV Division III Player of the Year as the top vote-getter on the 2020 Region IV DIvision III All-Region Team. The 5'10" product of St. Edward High School (IL) finished the year third in the region in scoring at 22.4 points per game and third in assists with 5.9 a contest. He scored 20 or more points on 20 different occasions, and even managed to pass the 40-point plateau twice during the season. Cortez-Harvey, along with Brayden Hennis of Rock Valley College and Adam Taylor of Joliet Junior College, will represent the region as the NJCAA All-American nominees.

Rock Valley defends crown, repeats as Region IV champ

February 26, 2020

GLEN ELLYN, ILL. - Rock Valley College ran away from the competition in a pair of wins over the weekend that propelled the defending champions to a second straight 2020 Region IV Division III Men's Basketball Tournament title. The top-seeded Golden Eagles, who have won the region crown six times in the past eight years, defeated Madison College 73-52 to advance to the district level.

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) has named South Suburban College's Courtney Carter as the Men's Basketball Division II Player of the Week for January 20-26 (Week 10). The award is the first this season for Carter, and the first in 2019-20 for the Bulldogs. Carter's big week also earned him Region IV Division II - District 3 Player of the Week accolades.

Stonis of Lake County uses double-doubles to earn NJCAA Player of the Week

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) has selected the College of Lake County's Jarod Stonis as the Division II Men's Basketball Player of the Week for January 6-12 (Week 8). The honor is the first national honor for Stonis, and the first such honor this season for the Lancers.
